A Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) is a court order that recognizes the existence of an Alternate Payee for the purposes of dividing assets held in retirement plans qualified under "ERISA". It is the document needed to divide many pension, savings and other retirement accounts. These documents must accurately reflect the parties' intent, comply with the plan rules and language and also meet the statutory requirements as set down by the regulations that governing QDROs and their issuance.

The full process is described in the document below but once a retainer form is signed and returned the orders are prepared based on the information provided. Other documentation such as the divorce judgment and summary plan description should also be forwarded. Sometimes additional information is needed from the plan administrator.
